Happy Friday! I so enjoyed writing last week’s silver linings that I’m back again another week. Can you believe it’s November? Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, so I’m looking forward to this month greatly. I could eat stuffing for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I use this Pioneer Woman stuffing recipe year after year and we love turning it into this stuffing breakfast casserole with the leftovers (please ignore the crazy low quality photos of 8 years ago).
Best thing I ate this week:
- Homemade cornbread that tasted just like Jiffy
- Wednesday night we made a garlicky honey glazed pork tenderloin that came out so good. Pork tenderloin is a new-to-me cut of meat but it’s actually really easy and makes a lot of food. Trying to switch things up from our usual chicken breast/chicken thighs/ground beef rotation. I did a recipe from Larson Folkert’s a Month of Dinner, but this recipe is similar.
Best thing I drank this week: My husband made us spiked apple cider to go along with sitting in the driveway in our camp chairs on Halloween, handing out candy. He used a spiced rum and even warmed it on the stovetop with cinnamon sticks. Yum.
A moment that brought me joy: Leaving my son’s year of photos up from his birthday party so I can look at them everyday. And, eating lunch outside on the patio every chance I get.
Projects this week/weekend:
- Attempting to make some fall planters look as good as Carmen Johnston’s
- Taking down Halloween decor and turning around any halloween pumpkins so they can continue to be decor through fall (for example, I turn around these “beware” pumpkins on the mantle so they just become normal pumpkins.
- Unfollowing people on social media: The night of Halloween, after my sugar-laden toddler was in bed, I opened up Instagram and was immediately greeted by the first holiday gift guide. Dread filled my stomach. Did I have my list yet of what to buy people? Have I set a budget? The season had arrived where social media might as well be chanting BUY BUY BUY (and not in a fun N’SYNC way). I instantly felt anxious. I texted with a friend the next morning and decided I would unfollow all but one or two accounts for the holiday season, and immediately did so before I could change my mind. Now social media is filled with friends and family enjoying the season, and I like that a whole lot better.
These look delicious if you need a baking idea.
Something my kids loved this week: Coloring on this craft paper (I saw a tip for saving this colored-on paper to use as wrapping paper- totally will be doing that!). We actually use this roll all the time. For parties I’ll roll it out on the dining table and tape it down for kids to color on. For a random weekend day I’ll just cut a rectangle piece, tape it down and my daughter will color on it. You can lay it out as a backdrop for a buffet and write labels for each dish on it. It also works great for a neutral gift wrap.
We’ll also be doing a thankful turkey for the first time this November! Stay tuned for the off-the-wall things my daughter declares she’s thankful for. Usually it’s things like “chairs” or “cheese”.
Recent Amazon orders:
- These silk hair scrunchies for protecting my curls while I sleep
- A brown ribbed midi dress
Hope you had a wonderful week!
