This 6-Ingredient Almond Butter Chocolate Chip Mug Cake is dangerously easy to make and perfect for a quick treat!
Oh, man. This mug cake. I really wasn’t sure if I was going to put this up on the blog, because hello, there are a million mug cake recipes out there.
I’ve been recipe testing this paleo mug cake recipe for weeks to get it just right, y’all. When I landed upon the final recipe, it was SO GOOD that I had to share it.
The recipe lives on a note in my iPhone because I make it that much…oops.
Each time I made it, I’d try something a little different and write down my thoughts. AND NOW I PRESENT YOU WITH THE PERFECT FINAL PRODUCT. (Yes that required all caps. Also, I’ve had some coffee. Can you tell?)
What You’ll Need
Dry Ingredients
- Almond flour
- Baking powder
- Vanilla protein powder
- Chocolate chips (Use dairy free chocolate chips if sensitive)
Wet Ingredients
- Almond butter of choice (I used Nuttzo Crunchy Power Fuel– you can find it at Costco!)
- Unsweetened vanilla almond milk
Seriously, that’s it!
Ingredient Notes
Vanilla Protein Powder
I’ve tried it with SLAP! Vanilla Frosting protein and the Tone It Up vanilla protein, and both were good. If you want to omit the vanilla protein, just swap it for almond flour.
Almond Butter
I recipe tested with both regular peanut butter (making it more of a peanut butter chocolate chip mug cake) and Nuttzo almond butter, and the Nuttzo was out-of-this-world good. Use any kind of nut butter you’d like, just know that it will affect the taste.
Almond Milk
If your unsweetened almond milk isn’t vanilla flavored, just add in a splash of vanilla extract.
Extras
I know I said this almond butter chocolate chip mug cake was only six ingredients, but if you have them on hand, add in a dash of cinnamon and a few twists of sea salt!
Other Easy Desserts

- the easiest cream cheese swirl brownies (reader fave!)
- 4-ingredient salted dark chocolate peanut butter cups (seriously hide these from me because I will eat them all)
