Hey hi good morning! June was such a busy month for me and I’m excited to slow down and share some good stuff with y’all!
If you’re new to this kind of post, near the end of each month I share a little catch up on my life as well as products, recipes, and other goods that I’ve been loving/y’all have been loving. It’s a fun way to switch things up and gives me a chance to get personal with y’all.
This month’s favorites is all over the place- from home decor to recipes to how to pick a watermelon. Grab a cup of coffee and let’s do this!
Home Update
We’re slowly starting to furnish our home and I love how it’s coming together! Our style (okay, MY style) is kind of a modern farmhouse feel with a lot of blues and greys. My husband jokes that our entire living room is going to be beige or grey by the end of this so I’m trying really hard to pick things that have some color.
P.S., you can see my farmhouse style Pinterest boards here.
After literally months of searching (I’m so picky), I finally picked a rug thanks to RugsUSA’s feature that lets you put down a rug virtually IN YOUR ROOM. I mean look at this:
This isn’t even sponsored, I’m just that excited about it because it’s a TOTAL GAME CHANGER when it comes to picking out rugs online. And it’s pretty darn accurate- you can move the rug around and put it “under” furniture too . After trying out nine different ones, I picked this cream and blue design (the first one in the photo set above)
We recently got this sliding door media center for our living room from Wayfair and I’m really impressed with it’s quality. I think it will look good with the rug!
Also, we got this gorgeous headboard and bed frame in a charcoal color and I love the way it pops against our light walls and light comforter. Next up is to continue furnishing our living room since that’s where we spend the most time!
Now onto the good stuff! Here’s what we loved in June.
Foods & Goods To Try
It’s finally HOT in Texas and that means my desire to fire up the oven is at an all time low. I’ve been craving cold foods like iced coffee, smoothies, overnight oats, salads, watermelon and things like chicken or tuna salad. If you’ve never tried subbing mashed avocado for mayo in tuna salad, you’re missing out!
In June, my friend Annie and I held our first women’s fitness/wellness weekend in Dripping Springs and it was so much fun! So many companies donated items for “swag” bags, and these were the favorites:
- Nutpods Dairy-Free Creamer
- Jilz Gluten Free Crackers
- Wildway Grain Free Granola (this stuff is always in my pantry and the banana nut flavor is my FAVE- it’s on my overnight oats right now!)
Odds & Ends
One of my goals for 2018 is to continue to go outside my comfort zone and try new things. As an introvert and a homebody (are those one in the same?) this is hard for me! My mom and I spontaneously booked a trip to San Francisco for August and it was such a challenge for me to say “let’s just buy the tickets and we’ll figure the rest out!” However, I know that these type of things are memories I will remember for the rest of my life.
Other new/spontaneous/learned things this month:
- Andrew and I made homemade pasta for the first time with the new kitchen aid pasta attachment from my in-laws (thank you!) and had so much fun. We made fettucine and tossed it with this cauliflower alfredo sauce, chicken sausage and spinach.
- Add garlic powder to your guacamole next time you make it. Don’t ask questions. Just do it. I made a batch for an early 4th of July BBQ and so many people asked me what was in the guac!
- Ever wondered how to pick a solid watermelon? Look for a creamy yellow spot on it. If it has one, it means it sat on the ground longer and likely will be sweeter. Now ya know!
Reader Faves
Here’s what y’all loved the most from ASL this month!
- Poblano Sour Cream Chicken Enchiladas – these have been a hit since Day 1! Y’all love them!
- Sundried Tomato and Feta Turkey Burgers – perfect for summer grilling!
- Zucchini Primavera – (pictured above) full of summer veggies!
That’s it for this month’s coffee date! Happy July!
