I’ll be completely honest here – I’m still learning how to navigate the daycare mom life. Last year, I totally did not know it was a thing to take cupcakes to your kid’s class on their birthday. Sorry, Maddie. I’d like to think I’ve gotten better since then – I contributed plastic eggs for the class Easter egg hunt. I sent in $5 for the pizza party. But also- was the tuition that we pay (that is equivalent to a second mortgage) not enough for pizza Friday? Ask me how I feel about this. 🙃
For Valentine’s Day this year, I wanted to go a fun and easy route. Since Hobby Lobby has their Valentine’s Day things out 11 months ahead of time (kidding), I roamed the aisles a few weeks ago and put together this idea that comes out to less than $2/kid:
Heart pop it key chain + applesauce pouch + valentine’s dinosaur stickers
I wanted to put some cute heart confetti into each bag, but I also didn’t want other parents cursing that one parent that had the brilliant idea of sending home TINY PIECES OF SPARKLY PAPER that they will continue to find until 4th of July. So, no confetti. I stuffed each bag with an applesauce pouch, a heart pop-it, and some stickers. Done.
Here are some other non-candy ideas for your toddler’s class Valentine’s Day. Use your best judgment if you think your kiddo’s classmates are too small for little toys or foods.
- Stickers (bonus points if they’re re-usable ones like this)
- Finger puppets
- Mini watercolor set
- Sensory pop tubes
- Mini slinkies
- Bubbles
- Mini pop its
- Mini dinosaurs
- Pull back cars
- Mini play doh
You can always combine these with a snack like cuties, applesauce pouches, fruit snacks, graham cracker bites, etc.
Hope this gave you some fun ideas for the tiny tornadoes in your life! And I promise you, even if you don’t take cupcakes to your kid’s class on their birthday, you’re doing a great job.
