I seriously never thought I would be writing a post about what works best for my skin, because growing up I had the WORST skin. Acne prone, and oily all over. In photos my face would just shine like the sun. Over the years I’ve tried anything and everything (proactiv, dermatologist, clean & clear, and more) and I’m sharing what works for me now!
By no means am I a pro at skincare, but when you spend your teenage and college years trying to figure out how to deal with oily and acne prone skin, you learn a lot. Finding products that worked for me was a BIG DEAL, so I’m hoping this helps y’all if you’re in a similar boat.

The two biggest things I’ve learned about my skin are
- Your skin changes as you get older
- Consistency is KEY!
This means that products that worked for me in college may not work for me now. It also means that my skin does best when I stick to a certain product and don’t use something different each day in hopes that one will magically give me what I want.
Because I have oily skin, I’ve heard I won’t get wrinkles as easily when I’m older (FINALLY A POSITIVE), but I’m still diligent about taking care of my skin now so that it looks great when I’m older. My mom has the prettiest skin (#goals) This means applying SPF daily (it’s in my foundation), taking off my makeup EVERY NIGHT, and using a quality moisturizer each night.
3 Products That Transformed My Skin
Full disclosure: I’m not sponsored in any way by TULA, nor do I get any kind of commission from sales. I’m a big fan because it’s done wonders for my skin and want y’all to feel that way too! You can even pop over to their site to read reviews and you’ll see I’m not the only one who feels this way ???? I got a beauty kit that had the cleanser and moisturizer, and a small sample of their exfoliating treatment mask. It was a great deal and an awesome way to try their products. They have a kit similar right now that you can see here.
After about a month using TULA products, I noticed that dark spots had faded and my skin looked more even. I broke out way less, and my skin wasn’t as oily. The best part was I was finally confident enough to be in my own skin- NO MAKEUP! I joke to my husband that I still feel like a 10 even after I take off my makeup at the end of the day.
Cleanser
I use this TULA cleanser morning and night to wash my face. It’s done wonders to balance out my skin and reduce the amount of oil produced! The bottle lasts so long, too. I’ve had mine since the END OF APRIL and I’ve probably got another two weeks or so left. It gets all the makeup off my face and doesn’t leave my skin feeling tight or dry like some cleansers do. Highly recommend!
Moisturizer
Hello, my favorite little friend. I use this moisturizer day and night and it’s been so great! I love that it’s light enough to use during the day, because nobody likes that greasy feeling from a heavy moisturizer. Some people with oily skin wonder if they should moisturize (hello, my skin already has enough moisture, thanks) but it’s so important! Your skin will actually produce more oil if it thinks it doesn’t have enough. No bueno. I got the moisturizer at the end of April with the cleanser, and I just now finished it about three weeks ago.
I love using the exfoliating mask, but I usually only pull it out on Sunday nights when I’m having some me-time. It’s a fun treat!
My BFF
It took me years to get on the Clarisonic train, but I’m so glad I did. My undergrad and grad school roommates both had them and swore by them! It’s a great exfoliator that cleans out my pores and leaves my skin so smooth after I use it. You’ll have to learn how your skin takes to it, but I definitely don’t use this tool every day. I never want to irritate my skin or be too harsh, so I use it every other day or every two days. Usually I know when I need to use it because my skin gets a little rough, or I’ll start to break out some. The pink one is so cute (they have so many colors to pick from), but I have the simple white one (the most budget friendly one) and it works just the same????
Even though the moisturizer and cleanser are a little on the pricey side compared to your drugstore face wash, the products last so long, and to me, the results are worth it. TULA has sales all the time if you sign up for their email list (the sign up is at the very bottom!). You actually get 15% off and free shipping on your first order when you sign up. Catching a sale is a great way to try their products.
My Skincare Routine
Again, this routine may not work for everyone with oily skin, but I wanted to share for those of y’all who are curious about how I use the products above!
Each morning, I wash my face after I workout with the TULA cleanser, followed by the hydrating day & night cream. I always use primer on my face and eyelids (this one for face, and this one for eyelids) otherwise makeup just “melts” off my skin. At night, I take off my eye makeup with Neutrogena makeup remover and then wash my face with the TULA cleanser. It gets off every bit of makeup and doesn’t leave my skin feeling dry. I finish it off with the day and night cream, and that’s it! Simple, but consistency is what I believe makes it so effective. About twice a week I’ll exfoliate with my clarisonic brush.
If you’ve got oily or acne prone skin, I hope these tips have helped!
